Airway Rodeo

Every year, the second year students in the EMS program set up an obstacle course for the first year students. It is called the airway rodeo. We reserve one of the auditoriums and take all of the airway manikins (13 in all) and put them in strange positons (under stuff, upside down, ect) and the first years get timed to see who can intubate all of the manikins the fastest. We also make it dark with crazy music and lights, then we follow them around the obstacle course and yell things at them to get them flustered. It is a lot of fun. Afterwards, the first years cook the second years a meal (barbeque). So it is just a really fun day for everyone. Here are some pics of the first years going through the obstacle course.

At the park….

Daisy is trying to get over her fear of hights. These last two weeks she has taken baby steps to conquer this fear. Yesterday, she climbed the rock wall and various ladders all by herself. It is quite an accomplishment for her, and yesterday was a very exciting day for both of us. So….Yeah for Daisy!!!
Daisy also discovered a new way to swing on the swings. She was watching a little boy on the swing next to her and decided she wanted to try it. She then spent the next 30 minutes making herself dizzy.

School News

Well, this isn’t that great of a pic of me, but I was in the school news, so it is kind of fun to share. The girl sitting in front of me is a first year EMS student, the other students are from the nursing, radiology, RT, and PT programs.

Last Clinical, Woohooo!

Tomorrow, I leave for Wake County (Raleigh, NC- about 5 hours away from where I live) to do my very last clinical. Yay!!! NO more working for free. We are doing a 24 hour shift from Friday morning until Saturday morning, and then we will be going to the burn center at UNC (University of NC) for a couple of hours. I can’t believe it is almost over. We do our scope of practice next Saturday (a senario-have to pass this to be able to take paramedic test), then we have to do our national registry skills the Saturday after that (you can test for state certification or for national certification. for national, you have to pass a series of skills stations to be able to take national test on top of your scope). Then we take our final on April 30th (have to get an 80% or better to test), and then dun, dun, ta dun……Paramedic test on June 15!!!! And I will be a Paramedic! (Providing I pass all of the above of course)

Oh yeah, I graduate May 6th far those of you who are curious. ;-)
