Cram time!

Well not too much exciting has happend lately. Next week is the last week of the semester, so that means it is cram time, with lots and lots of tests. Today I have four tests. Yell Down one, three more to go. Tomorrow I only have one class. It is my driving class (ambulance), so that won’t be a hard test to pass. Next week is finals. So half of the week will be reveiw and the other half will be more tests. I can’t wait until the week after next. Then I get a month off of school, and I can just relax and enjoy my kid. My brother and sister are coming up to visit on the 20th and will be here until the 27th, so that is something to look forward to too. Plus, birthdays and Christmas are always fun.

Well better get back to studying. Cry Hope your week is better than mine.Laughing

Isn’t this Santa hat sooo cute. I just had to get it for Daisy when I saw it.  It says “princess” on it, just in case you can’t tell what it says, and it is even pink.Kiss

Today Daisy FINALLY started to feel better. I took her to the doctor yesterday morning, and they put her on her fourth antibiotic. Hopefully, we won’t need anymore antibiotics after this one. I am starting to feel better today also, but still have a cough. Everyone else at home is still pretty sick. None of us wanted to do anything on Thanksgiving. We all felt so terrible, that all we did was veg on couches in front of the tv all day with oj in hand. But I am glad that I was sick on my time off of school, rather than durring school.

Rub a dub dub…Daisy in the tub.

So it has been a little while since I wrote a blog, and so much has happened. Saturday night I went riding again on the ambulance. Nothing exciting happened until a half an hour before I was supposed to go home. I was getting kind of dissapointed, and then they got a call for a broken hip. We went and got the pt, and transported him to the hospital. On the way back, we got another (emergency) call for a sezure. So I had to go along for that one too.  It was a guy getting off of alcohol, going through DT’s. We took him to the hospital. We didn’t get back to the base until 1:30am, but it was worth it. It was fun. It is kind of addicting. You get an adreniline rush everytime you get a call. I wish that I could ride more, but we are only suposed to ride for ten hours.

Other news, my baby has been sooo sick. I feel so bad for her. She had an ear infection a couple of weeks ago, but the antibiotics didn’t get rid of it. So on Sunday I took her to the ER and they gave her a different antibiotic. But that antibiotic didn’t work either. So yesterday, I took her to the doctor, and they gave her different antibiotic. This time it was a shot, that is suposed to work in one day. Whatever they gave her, has really knocked her out. They gave it to her yesterday at 4:30pm, and she has only been awake for about four hours since they gave it to her and it is 2:00pm right now. I have to take her to the doctor again today at 4:00pm to see if it worked. If it didn’t work they are going to give her another shot. But I think that it is working. She has had a really high fever since last Friday, and it seems to be going down today.

Now the bad news. Yesterday, we took our final in our EMS class. We have to get a 80% or higher to take the State Test to get our EMT-Basic certification. Unfortunatly, only one person in my whole class got higher than 80%. Everyone esle got in the 70%’s. Soooo depressing. On Monday we are going to have a class meeting to figure out what we are going to do. We have the chance to re-test, but we have to do it asap, or else we have to wait until next year to take the state test. They only do it 2 times a year. I am pretty upset that I didn’t do as well as I wanted to do, but I am not going to get too depressed about it until I retake the test.

Anyway…..HAPPY THANKSGIVING…..for all you Americans out there!

I can’t wait until next week. I have wed, thurs, and fri, off of school. I am looking forward to some time with Daisy. I haven’t been around her as much lately, and this weekend isn’t going to be that much better. I am going to ride-along with paramedics again tomorrow. I had a lot of fun last weekend, so I hope this time will be just as fun.

Ride-along part 1

Last night was sooo much fun. I was at the base for five hours and got to go on three calls. The paramedics that I rode along with let me do things to help them even though I was only supposed to watch. They let me take vitals, hook the pt up to an ekg, get pt info, ect. They were even going to let me put an IV in, but I haven’t learned how to do that yet, so I had to tell them no. I can’t wait until next Saturday when I get to ride-along again. The first call I went on was kind of sad. It was a 79-year old lady who was outside walking around her house to get some excercise, and she ended up slipping on a rock and fell. I guess she fell around 12:30pm, but know one found her until 4:30-5:00pm that evening. We didn’t arrive until 5:30pm. And her leg was broken, and it had been sprinkling and it was cold the whole time she was lying there. My second call was a possible heart attack. When we hooked her up to an ekg, though, it was unremarkable, but we took her to the hospital anyway. My last call was this really cute old guy (85 years) and he had fallen and couldn’t get up. He really didn’t need to go to the hospital, but insisted that he need to be checked out, so we took him over to the hospital too. It was really funny, because when we walked into his house and he saw me, he said “I know you from somewhere! Where have I seen you before?” I don’t think that I have ever seen him before, but he swore up and down that he knew me from somewhere.

Only one more month to go until fall semester is over. That means tests, tests, tests. I am so tired of taking tests. But the good news is that we are doing a lot of fun stuff in our EMS classes now, since we know how to do more stuff. We started driving the school ambulance last week. And I just have to say, that I am pretty good at driving one. It is really hard to back up though. You can’t see anything behind you and you have a really big blind spot. Even harder is taking vitals on people while someone else is driving. I swear it took me ten minutes to find my “patients” (classmate) vitals when I was in the back. The ambulance is so bumpy to ride in. I don’t know how they do it in real life. But I am sure I will get better after some practice.

This month we start doing clinicles, and that is really going to be fun. We have to ride along in ambulances and watch real paramedics take care of real people. I go on my first real ambulance ride this saturday from 5pm until 10pm. I can’t wait. And next month, on the 11th, we take the state test to become EMT’s. So that means I have to start studying like crazy. I am thinking about working at a hospital as an ER tech after I get my EMT, so that I can get more experiance doing all the stuff that we have learned so far, while I continue with school until I get my paramedic degree.

Tonight we are getting inducted into epsilon. Epsilon is kind of like a frat for the EMS program. I guess the second years made paddles for each of us, but I am not so sure that anyone is going to be paddleing my behind. We’ll see.

Trick or Treat!

Well, Daisy was in “candy heaven” last night. She absolutley loved getting the candy from everyone. Isn’t she so cute in her costume? I found these clip on pigtails at the dollar store and had to get them for her costume. She didn’t really like the hat too much.
